Licensing for Los Angeles pharmacy jobs.
Los Angeles follows California's statewide rules, which are some of the strictest in the country. If you're hiring from outside the state, or moving here yourself, these are the points that decide the start date.
NAPLEX plus the CPJE
Pharmacists need a California State Board of Pharmacy license, which means the NAPLEX, the California Practice Standards and Jurisprudence Examination (CPJE) and 1,500 intern hours.
No simple license transfer
Pharmacists licensed in another state still sit the CPJE, so an out-of-state hire needs a realistic timeline before they can start in Los Angeles.
California technician license
Technicians need a California license through an approved training program, PTCB certification or qualifying military training, plus a high school diploma or GED.
Advanced Practice Pharmacists
California pharmacists can furnish hormonal contraception and travel medications, and Advanced Practice Pharmacists (APh) can start, adjust and stop drug therapy, which suits LA's clinic and ambulatory care roles.
