How pharmacy licensing works in Ohio.
Ohio has clear routes in for pharmacists from other states and a three-tier system for technicians. Its law exam rules changed in October 2026.
NAPLEX plus the UMPJE
The Ohio Board of Pharmacy requires the NAPLEX and a law exam. From October 2026 Ohio accepts only the Uniform MPJE (UMPJE), together with Ohio's online pharmacy law course.
Reciprocity through NABP
Pharmacists licensed elsewhere transfer through NABP, apply for reciprocity, complete fingerprint checks and pass the Ohio pharmacy law course within six months.
Three registration tiers
Ohio registers Technician Trainees, Registered Pharmacy Technicians and Certified Pharmacy Technicians. Certified technicians need an approved training program plus PTCB or ExCPT certification.
Consult agreements and vaccines
Ohio pharmacists can manage drug therapy under consult agreements with physicians, and can immunize patients aged 5 and over.
