Nebraska Licensing

How pharmacy licensing works in Nebraska.

Nebraska licensing runs through the Department of Health and Human Services, with the Board of Pharmacy setting standards. Every route in, including reciprocity, needs the Nebraska MPJE or the Uniform MPJE.

Pharmacists

NAPLEX plus the MPJE or UMPJE

New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and either the Nebraska MPJE or the Uniform MPJE (UMPJE) before applying. Nebraska began offering the UMPJE on June 1, 2026.

Moving to Nebraska

Reciprocity or score transfer

Licensed pharmacists from other states can apply by reciprocity, or by NAPLEX score transfer if they are newly qualified. Both routes still need the Nebraska MPJE or the UMPJE.

Technicians

Registered, then certified within a year

Technicians must be registered with DHHS before their first day of work and become certified through a board-approved program within one year of registration.

Staffing

Up to four per pharmacist

Since LB118 was approved in March 2025, a Nebraska pharmacist can supervise up to four pharmacy technicians and pharmacist interns in any combination, up from three.
