Colorado Licensing

How pharmacy licensing works in Colorado.

Colorado certifies its pharmacy technicians, so a national credential alone is not enough to work here. Pharmacists have a broad scope under Board statewide protocols, including prescribing HIV prevention drugs.

Pharmacists

NAPLEX plus the MPJE

New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and the MPJE, and complete 1,500 intern hours within five years of graduating.

Moving to Colorado

NABP transfer plus the MPJE

Pharmacists licensed in another state pass the MPJE, then apply through NABP's e-LTP. The out-of-state license normally needs to have been active for at least a year.

Technicians

Board certification required

Technicians need Colorado Board certification, based on a national certification in good standing. A one-time provisional certification lasts up to 18 months while a technician gets nationally certified.

Broader Scope

HIV PrEP and PEP

Under Board statewide protocols, Colorado pharmacists can assess patients and prescribe HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis.

Where we recruit pharmacy staff in Colorado.

Most of Colorado's pharmacy jobs sit along the Front Range, but mountain and Western Slope communities have their own hiring challenges, from housing costs to distance. We plan every search around where the role is.

Hospital, retail and long-term care roles, plus pharmacy serving military families.

For Colorado Employers

Hire Colorado pharmacy staff faster than you can on your own.

Colorado's technician certification rules mean an unlicensed hire cannot simply start on the floor, and mountain employers compete hard on housing as well as pay. We check license and certification status on the first call and send you a short list of people who can start.

  • Colorado license and technician credentials checked before you see a resume.
  • A short list of strong candidates, not a pile of applications to sift.
  • Honest pay advice: if we think your offer is above or below the Colorado market, we will tell you, and show you how to stand out.
  • Permanent, contract and leadership hiring across the whole market.
