How pharmacy licensing works in New Mexico.
New Mexico gives trained pharmacists prescriptive authority under board rules, from vaccines and naloxone to hormonal contraception and point-of-care testing. It also uses its own state MPJE rather than the new Uniform MPJE.
NAPLEX plus the New Mexico MPJE
The board requires a degree from an ACPE-accredited program, a board-certified internship, and passing scores on the NAPLEX and the MPJE.
Reciprocity and the MPJE
Pharmacists licensed by exam in a reciprocating state apply through NABP and must pass the New Mexico MPJE within a year of applying. An expedited one-year provisional license is also available.
Registered, then certified
Technicians register with the board before doing any technician duties and must earn board-approved national certification within one year of registering.
Pharmacist prescriptive authority
Pharmacists who complete board-approved training can prescribe vaccines, naloxone, tobacco cessation therapy and hormonal contraception, and can prescribe alongside point-of-care testing.
