Arizona Licensing

How pharmacy licensing works in Arizona.

Arizona moved to the Uniform MPJE in April 2026, and every new pharmacist and technician also needs an Arizona fingerprint clearance card. Technicians start as registered trainees and must be nationally certified to hold a full technician license.

Pharmacists

NAPLEX plus the UMPJE

New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and Arizona's law exam, which is the Uniform MPJE (UMPJE) from April 1, 2026. Initial applicants also need a valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card.

Moving to Arizona

Reciprocity with an Arizona fingerprint card

Pharmacists whose original license was gained by examination and is in good standing can apply by reciprocity, pass the law exam and provide an Arizona fingerprint clearance card.

Technicians

Trainee, then certified

Technician trainees register with the Board and can practice as trainees for up to 36 months. A full technician license needs a high school diploma or equivalent and a passing PTCB or ExCPT exam.

Broader Scope

Test and treat under statewide protocols

A 2026 law (SB 1713) sets up Board-approved protocols for Arizona pharmacists to test and treat flu, strep and COVID-19, and to start HIV PrEP and PEP.
