How pharmacy licensing works in Connecticut.
Connecticut licenses pharmacists through the Commission of Pharmacy, part of the Department of Consumer Protection. Pharmacists moving in can transfer, but the process includes the Connecticut MPJE and a personal interview with the Commission, so it pays to plan ahead.
NAPLEX plus the MPJE
New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and the MPJE and complete at least 1,500 intern hours, verified by their college of pharmacy or state board.
NABP transfer and an interview
Licensed pharmacists transfer through NABP, pass the Connecticut MPJE and meet the Commission of Pharmacy. A temporary permit allows up to 180 days of practice alongside a Connecticut pharmacist.
Registered, certification optional
Technicians register with the Department of Consumer Protection within 30 days of starting training. National certification is optional, but it can let a pharmacist supervise three technicians instead of two.
Contraceptive prescribing
Under Public Act 23-52, trained Connecticut pharmacists can prescribe hormonal contraceptives for up to 12 months and prescribe and dispense emergency contraception.
