How pharmacy licensing works in Vermont.
Vermont is one of the few states that does not require a pharmacy law exam, so the NAPLEX is the main hurdle. Its pharmacists can also prescribe a wide range of treatments under state protocols.
NAPLEX, with no law exam
The Vermont Board of Pharmacy requires a passing NAPLEX score and a pharmacy degree from an approved program. Vermont does not require the MPJE or any other pharmacy law exam.
License by endorsement
Pharmacists licensed in good standing in a state with equivalent requirements, or in any US state for at least three years, can apply by endorsement, usually through NABP license transfer.
Registered, then trained or certified
Technicians register with the Office of Professional Regulation from age 16. Trainees have up to four years to finish a board-approved training program or national certification.
Prescribing under state protocols
Vermont pharmacists can prescribe hormonal contraception, naloxone, tobacco cessation products and HIV prevention medicines, and test and treat flu, strep and COVID-19 under state protocols.
