How pharmacy licensing works in Mississippi.
Mississippi requires 1,600 hours of practical experience and a fingerprint background check for every pharmacist applicant. Technicians register with the Board, but the Board no longer requires national certification.
NAPLEX plus the MPJE
New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and the MPJE and complete 1,600 hours of pre-licensure practical experience. Every applicant is fingerprinted for a criminal history check.
NABP license transfer
Pharmacists who passed the NAPLEX in their home state apply through NABP license transfer and pass the MPJE. Their other state licenses must not have been restricted.
Registered, certification optional
Technicians register with the Board, must be at least 18 and need a high school diploma or equivalent. The Board no longer requires national certification, though employers can.
Protocol-based drug therapy
Mississippi's definition of pharmacy practice includes starting or changing drug therapy and ordering lab work under written guidelines or protocols approved by the Board.
