Michigan Licensing

How pharmacy licensing works in Michigan.

Michigan is one of the few states that does not require a pharmacy law exam, for new graduates or for pharmacists moving in. Instead, applicants attest that they know Michigan pharmacy law and complete required training.

Pharmacists

NAPLEX, no law exam

New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and complete 1,600 internship hours. Michigan does not require the MPJE, but applicants attest that they know the Public Health Code and Board rules.

Moving to Michigan

License by endorsement

Pharmacists licensed in another state apply by endorsement using the NABP licensure transfer report. There is no law exam, but fingerprints and a criminal background check are required.

Technicians

Licensed, not just registered

Michigan technicians hold a state license, usually after passing the PTCB or NHA exam or a Board-approved employer program. A one-year temporary license covers people preparing for the exam.

Required Training

Human trafficking and opioid training

Every new pharmacist completes one-time training on identifying victims of human trafficking and on opioids and controlled substances awareness before licensure.
