How pharmacy licensing works in Idaho.
Idaho's licensing route is short: state law requires the NAPLEX but no state law exam, and licensed pharmacists transfer through NABP. Idaho rules also let pharmacists prescribe independently within set limits.
NAPLEX, no law exam
New pharmacists graduate from an accredited program and pass the NAPLEX. Idaho Code does not require a jurisprudence exam, and foreign graduates also need FPGEC certification and 1,740 experiential hours.
NABP license transfer
Licensed pharmacists apply by reciprocity through NABP's license transfer program, with fingerprints and an Idaho PDMP account. There is no separate Idaho law exam.
State registration
Technicians register with the Idaho Board of Pharmacy and renew regularly. Applicants must be at least 16, and those 18 and over complete a fingerprint background check.
Independent prescribing
Idaho pharmacists can prescribe independently for conditions they are educationally prepared for, as long as they gather enough patient information, refer when needed and keep records.
