Georgia Licensing

How pharmacy licensing works in Georgia.

Georgia expects 1,500 internship hours that cover both retail and hospital practice, and every pharmacist, new or relocating, passes the Georgia law exam. Reciprocity also depends on your home state accepting Georgia pharmacists in return.

Pharmacists

NAPLEX plus a law exam

New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and the Board-approved jurisprudence exam with a score of 75 or more, after 1,500 internship hours in both retail and hospital settings.

Moving to Georgia

Reciprocity through NABP

Licensed pharmacists apply through NABP, pass Georgia's jurisprudence exam and may be asked to interview with a Board member. Your home state must offer reciprocity to Georgia pharmacists.

Technicians

Registered, certification optional

Technicians register with the Board, must be at least 17 and pass a fingerprint background check. National certification is not required, and out-of-state registrations can't be transferred.

Staffing Rules

Certified technicians and ratios

A pharmacist can supervise up to three technicians if one is certified, and four if at least two are certified. That makes certified technicians valuable to Georgia employers.
